Wind Dam Project
What the heck is a wind dam? I think of it in the same light as a solar concentrator. You collect the wind flowing through a valley into a large spinnaker (sail). The giant spinnaker will have a hole at the one end that funnels the wind into a turbine - thus creating more energy than just a standalone turbine. This is very similar to how a solar concentrator has a series of mirrors directed at a central collection point - where the mirrors follow the wind.
This is a proposed project for a lake in northern Russia. The sail would be 25 meters x 75 meters and cost somewhere in the neighborhood of £2.5. Read more at Inhabitat.
I think its great to see more of these alternative energy solutions. It reminds me of the wind turbines in the ocean, under the ocean and in rivers.
Thanks for the tip, John
